Here's some more information on my
VISCA PTZ CAM Controller
(PTZ = Pan Tilt Zoom)

This project was made for my empolyer, University of Boras in 2001.

Pictures will be added later!

In the school of Health Sciences the teachers need to record the laborations on videotape to
be able to sit down with the student after the laboration and discuss how he/she acted in special
situations. To be able to see the whole classroom the wanted PTZ cameras that could move its
point of viev around in the room. The staff checed several different solutions but they wera all very
expensive.

They then asked me to build a small video-system and this is the result.
I have built 4 systems which now have been in use without problems since 2001.

Each system includes some of the shelf products:
Sony EVI-D30 PTZ Camera
Cheap 20" TV with built in VCR
Small Audiomixer
Two condensermicrophones

The camera is controlled by a Control station that I've developed:
Joystick for camera movement (Resistive to be able to move the camera at different speeds)
Buttons for Zoom in and Out
4 Buttons for preset positions
1 Button for saving preset position
Serial RS232 communication to the camera using VISCA (TM SONY!?) protocol,
(VISCA uses 9600 Baud RS232 communication)

The control station was built to be very simple to use and to be very robust.
All buttons areindustrial grade from EAO.
The PCB for the controlstation was professionally made by elprint.

CAM Controller Schematic and Sourcecode availiable for donload now!
Please don't complain if you don't understand this or if something isn't complete. These are my blueprints...
